President Bush visits the Katrina survivors
President George Bush finally visited the ruins of the hurricane at the American Red Cross national. He extended to the victims some relief operations that will help the operation to organize the disaster. The relief came from the Disaster Operations Center in Washington.
It’s good that the President thought pf visiting the place so that he can see and feel the shortcomings his countrymen have gone through. He declared to the people that there are a lot of people and neighboring countries that are willing to help. He also said that he came to help the people.
He said that it is now necessary to gather and collect donations such as money, blood, time and care. The survivors really need relief right now. Their homes have been taken away leaving them empty handed. In a county suffering from disaster, it is not appropriate to leave them hungry. Health and safety should come first in treating this situation. Although the people are hopeless, at least these reliefs will ease their pain and keep them struggling to survive.
But volunteers and kind hearts is all that they need. The country is at low and especially the victims of the hurricane. Much has been taken away from them so an extra hand is all they need to keep up with the hardships they are facing now. Hopes have been high that soon the country will recuperate from this tragic experience although they fear that it is quite impossible to achieve.
He visited the victims again bringing relief and other helpful options to the families. He stated that even if the relief did not come too soon as expected, at least more services and relief operation has been offered today. More food has been brought and delivered. The people need more food each day. There are a number of people in evacuation sites so constant relief is needed to keep them alive and in good health.
He then asks for blood donors for the victims who are under a serious state and condition. If more concerned citizens will reach out, the more chances there will be of saving people’s lives. Many victims had been badly hurt and they need immediate medication and treatment. This situation should be given more care and attention so as not to let them suffer more.

USMMA of Bellingham to Host Community Blood Drive on June 4th
Anyone who donates blood at USMMA on June 4th will receive a free box of Chocolate Dipped Strawberries from Edible Arrangements and will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win two Boston Red Sox Tickets and to be honored on the field as “Blood Donor of the Game”.
The American Red Cross’ specially trained staff will be set up on-site at USMMA to collect blood donations from volunteers. To be eligible to give blood, healthy donors must meet the following criteria:
Must be at least 17 years of age
Must weigh at least 110 lbs.
Must not have donated whole blood within the last eight weeks.
An American Red Cross staff member will conduct an extensive health history on each blood donor volunteer. Donor eligibility rules are intended to protect the health and safety of the donor as well as the patient who will receive the transfusion. The final determination of eligibility is made by American Red Cross staff.
According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, yet only five percent of the eligible population gives blood.
“There is a significant and ongoing need for blood. There are many people who require transfusions – from those in emergency situations to those with cancer, blood disorders or other illnesses. It’s important to come together as a community to help fulfill that need. We encourage our staff and members as well as those in the community to consider giving blood at USMMA on June 4th,” noted Tom Hafers, owner of USMMA.

Hurricane Katrina: Victims Scream for Help!
As the damage, lives, and missing are calculated the rest of the victims of Hurricane Katrina are asking what can they do to help and how can they be helped in their situation of distress. The American Red Cross is helping as much as they can and collecting funds to increase their capability to help the victims.
Federal help has been implemented, as well, to help the victims and their families get back on their feet. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) is now helping in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and southern Florida. With this extra help many of the needed supplies for the people of the area will be supplied, as well as the needed funds to prepare to rebuild.
Many individuals have rallied as well to help those in need, both with missing people and fixing damages. Searches are being conducted all across Louisiana and Mississippi to find missing people in the rubble and destruction that was left behind Katrina’s path.
Hopefully with all the help that the people of these states are receiving they will quickly be able to get back to their everyday lives. But for now Hurricane Katrina victims still need help in lots of ways and are asking where to go for help and have found a group of local websites such as www.mylouisiana.us and www.mymississippi.us to be of great help to look for information at the state level. At a more local level they have found www.myneworleansla.us and www.myjacksonms.us. These sites provide hope and information for these devastated people. The forums created by the webmasters provide information for the victims in an organized manner. As well as a way to ask questions about what is being done in their local areas in the way of rebuilding and finding lost loved ones. And in a smaller, but still important aspect, giving the victims a place to tell their stories as a way of helping them cope with their losses and move on with their lives.
There are several ways to help including donating to the Red Cross fund at www.redcross.org and also helping more directly by volunteering time to help. Another way to help these people directly if you don’t have a lot of time you can visit the My United States Network sites and give these people hope and information in the forums
