When we think of a nice person we see a person who is pleasant. The words agreeable , helpful, understanding and reliable come to mind. In today’s fast and often selfish society it is unusual to find someone who is actually nice. Let us put together a few things that a nice person would do and that we might also like to do if we could.

 

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If you think that this sounds like the bible, you are spot on! It is called the golden rule. If  the action that you are taking involves someone else and if on reflection you think that you would not have any problems with the same thing happenening to you, then it is probably OK.

Think of others before yourself. Do not always think “What’s in it for me? ” Try to do a good deed every day. When I joined the Boy Scouts I learned that this was one of the basic things that the founder of the scouts, Lord Baden Powell, had recommended. If you see a little old lady trying to cross the road in heavy traffic, run across and help her. You might be saving her life !

Ring your friends just to say hello. Be genuinely interested when you ask them how they are and listen to their replies. Do not hesitate to offer assistance. A friend might need to move furniture or need to have a lift somewhere. Give of your time unstintingly. This is what friendship is all about. Visit sick friends in hospital. We all need minor medical procedures from time to time and it is lovely to have a friend pop in to say hello. Offer to water their garden or collect the mail for them while they are in hospital. Offer to help them to buy food from the supermarket when they get home. Become a volunteer for a worthwhile organization. Meals on wheels,  Red Cross, charities etc. Every little thing that you can do will help and be greatly appreciated.

Be known as a person who never has a bad word to say about others. Gossip and slander never did anyone any good and only harm comes from it. Reflect on the sober thought that today just might be your last day and you would like to do something nice for another soul while you have the chance.

Chiropractic philosophy has always centered on the concept of the energy of the body and its ability to flow throughout the body unimpeded. Doing good things such as I have described will surely assist the flow of good energy and vibes throughout the world and hopefully make the world a better place for us, our children and our grandchildren.

Vinnitsa (Vinnytsya) as a small settlement was founded on the picturesque banks of the Southern Bug River in 1363 by Lithuanian Prince Olgert.

But numerous archeological excavations have proved that Slavic tribes lived in this area as far back as deep antiquity. The history of this land is closely connected with the names of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, Ivan Bogun, Maxim Krivonos, Yustim Karmalyuk and many other heroes of Ukrainian people. Since the Middle Ages and XVII-XLX centuries, pieces of a tall brick town wall, several churches and cathedrals, as well as many private residences have remained, which are used for different purposes.

Monument to N. Pirogov If you are interested in history, it would be worthwhile to visit our museum of Local Lore which is situated in the center of Vinnitsa near the bridge across the Southern Bug. There are expositions devoted to various periods of the development of Vinnitsa – from the times of antique coins, vases and cutlery of the Slavs to the modern examples of products which Vinnitsa enterprises produce. The citizens of Vinnitsa and guests like to attend the estate-museum of famous doctor Pirogov (1810-1881), the founder of the battle-field surgery, a famous scientist and pedagogue.

He invented narcosis, gypseous cast and many other things. One of the main streets in our town, the Medical University and the regional hospital are named after him. On Pirogov Street, you can see the monument to this outstanding doctor. The monument was unveiled in 1971 on the occasion of the centenary of the Red Cross Society in Russia. Every day many tourists from Ukrainian towns and villages, as well as from abroad, come to this estate- museum on excursions. They can look at the rooms where the professor wrote his scientific works, examined patients, rested, listened to music by P. Tchaikovsky, etc. They will surely enjoy walking in the park that surrounds the house. Some old trees in the park were planted by Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogov and the members of his family. Not far from this place, there is a church which the family attended and the burial vault where the embalmed body of the scientist is kept.

Many of our guests enjoy visiting the museum of the classic of Ukrainian literature Michailo Kotsubinskiy (1864-1913). The small white washed house where he lived with his family is in the center of Vinnitsa.

There is one more place in our town which is known all over the world – Hitler’s Headquarters. It is situated between Vinnitsa and the village of Strizhavka.

During the Great Patriotic War, many soldiers and officers were captured and imprisoned in special camps. There were engineers, builders and good workers among them. They were picked out and taken to Vinnitsa to build a huge underground structure for Hitler and his staff. Many thousands of people were shot after the headquarters was built. Al the entrances were concreted, mined and hidden. At the end of World War 2 this place was heavily bombarded, and still nobody really knows what is inside.

Now Vinnitsa is one of the 25 regions of Ukraine. It is situated in the central part of Ukraine. The total area of Vinnitsa region is about 16 thousand sq. miles, the population of city is about half a million people.

The main rivers are the Southern Bug and the Dniester. We also have nearly 50 small rivers and 2300 lakes. The natural resources are the following: deposits of granite, lime stone, clay, sand and mineral spring water in several places. Our rivers and lakes are full of fish: carps, pikes, perches, catfishes.

The climate of Vinnitsa region is moderately humid. The usual temperature in summer is +22°C, in winter – 6°C. The bathing season lasts from June to August and many citizens go picnicking in open air on weekends. Sometimes, you can come across a wolf or an elk.

It is quite obvious that Vinnitsa is the main industrial, transport, agricultural, cultural, and educational center of the region. The enterprises of Vinnitsa and industrial centers such as Kalynivka, Zhmerinka, Gaisin, Bershad etc can produce chemicals, motors and instruments, radio and TV lamps, building details, furniture, and food products.

Vinnitsa is known as agricultural center because the fertile soil of the region is favorable for vegetables in and fruit trees. The main crop is sugar beet. Sugar beets raising and sugar industry are widely spread.

Although Vinnitsa region has a great economical and agricultural potential but still most of the enterprises do not work and unemployment is constantly increasing.

Today there are thousands of organizations or they could be simply called as Non-Profit Organizations who work to help someone in need and not for money/profit. These non-profit organizations or charities depend on funds which they pull in from their members or supporters. They also end up having fund raising events where they raise funds, but when they use attractive wristbands or key chains or key bands, the organization ends up raising some money as well as get the message across to the people. Lot of groups, especially activists groups see that their campaigns or programmers or any kind of events are targeted at the young generations or the youths.

For instance the Lance Armstrong Foundation who fights cancer came up with their famous yellow color wristbands which were sold in millions across the globe raising money for their charity and it made people stand up for the cause and fight the disease. Coming to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the world’s largest animal rights group gives away and also sells wristbands for their activists and members, this helps them to bring awareness for the cause and raise some money. As both these organizations have targeted their silicone wristbands at youths it has become really famous. The designs were also made to attract them for the cause, and it slowly turned to be a fashion statement!

Do you remember Tsunami relief wristbands from the American Red Cross? These Tsunami relief wristbands were sold to get funds for the American Red Cross society to support the reconstruction efforts in Southeast Asians who were affected by the disastrous waves. So thanks to these silicone bracelets for helping those who are in need! Here are some tips that will help organizations to raise some funds via wristbands. Firstly see that you target the young adults; the color and message on the wristbands has to be definitely attractive and catchy. Try to design your wristbands differently, and see that it has something unique. For example it can be ‘glow in dark’ bands or key chains. Or the band can be broader, which is again not a common design when it is compared to the ordinary bracelets.

Mostly all wristbands have the words or slogan embossed into it but if you want to make the bands unique see that you fill up the words with attractive or contrasting colors. You may even simply change make the words Debossed. Adding your organization’s logo will again make the band unique and attractive. Finally coming to the price of the bands, you should be fixing up a price that has to be affordable so that everyone can buy them. You can even spread the message about your wristband sale on your website or via e-news or ask your activists to post some fliers about the fund raise.
